Chapter Two - Tensions on the Rise ________________________________________ It’s been a rough start to the season for the My Life as a Teenage Robot team, with the incident in Australia being talked about on social media followed by no point finishes in Imola and Bahrain has put the team down in the Constructors Championship. Fans even started to believe that team was not living up to the hype it had the year before, also some fans had noticed Jenny developing a colder side to herself and it was very noticeable when she was around Brad, who was still acting positive despite his unhappiness after the race in Australia. However the team seemed to be on the up as the championship arrives in China, as both Brad and Jenny had showed a slight return to form and back in contention to win points, with Brad comfortably racing in the points and Jenny was closing in the later stages of the race. —————— Lap 49 of 56 - 7 Laps remaining ( “The Chinese Grand Prix here in Shanghai has done it again, proving to be a rookie’s favourite, Alex Albon remember him in his debut with Toro Rosso? A brilliant performance by the Thai driver that year and it looks like Bradley Carbunkle and many others are keeping up the trend!” ) ( “He really is, it looks like the My Life as a Teenage Robot team are going back to form in this race!” ) Brad began a new lap passing the pit straight in 9th position, at the same time; also on a charge was his teammate Jenny who just passed another driver to take 10th place. This was exactly what the team needed and with only a few laps to go, it looked the team was going to get a good points finish, however Jenny’s charge was ongoing and it seemed that her sights were on Brad. ( “Well here comes Wakeman, closing in on her teammate!” ) ( “And the rumours in the paddock, that the tensions are rising between these two drivers, let’s see what happens here!” ) Jenny was giving it everything as she closed in on Brad, to which he could see in his mirrors. Even though team’s race engineers had told the driver that they’re free to race, they hoped it be clean. But as they approached Turn 6…. ( “Here we go, Wakeman is going for it! Down the inside of the hairpin and she barges her teammate off the track!” ) As Jenny once again makes contact, Brad goes wide near the run off, lucky for him; he was able to keep his car from being beached on the gravel trap and was still able to race, but this really shocked him as this time; this car contact felt deliberately caused, “Jenny! What you doing?!?! Come on Jen, what the heck?!” Brad asked in annoyance as his teammate roars away. ( “Looks like Carbunkle is really struggling to get over that!” ) Back at the pits, the team were once again disappointed as they now saw two cars passing Brad, but with only a few laps of the race remained, “okay Brad, just stay focused! Concentrate on the race!” The race engineer spoke to him. ( “That brush with his teammate, really affecting the young driver!” ) ( “I think it has Crofty, I can’t see any damage to that car, it looks like Carbunkle has to really give it his best here!” ) In his car; Brad was now really upset, he was in a comfortable points finish, but with Jenny forcing off the track had put him down out of the points. With only a few laps remaining, Brad had to quickly regain positions to achieve any points. The Race Engineer quickly comes on the radio, “alright, the car is still looking good Brad, see what you can do in regaining those places” he states. However Brad was focused on the recent contact, “what the heck was that about?!” He asked in annoyance. “Don’t focus on that, you can still recover Brad” the Race Engineer responds, hoping to keep Brad focused on the race. But Brad was still clearly not happy about Jenny’s move, “that’s not okay! Seriously that is not okay!” He states as he tries to catch the other drivers before the end of the race. Brad manages to catch up to one the cars that passed him, using DRS on the last straight he dives past the other car and put the hammer down to catch the other cars that were between him and Jenny. Starting another lap, Brad closed in on the duo of Star and Marco, with both of them showing that it will be very hard to get pass as Star had the remaining point scoring position and Marco was defending his teammate. However fortune was gonna shine for Brad. ( “Looks like both Carbunkle and Diaz are closing in on Butterfly, looks like the Mewni defence is starting to crumble!” ) ( “Star Butterfly looks like she’s under pressure, think she knows Diaz can’t hold Carbunkle for long!” ) It became clear to all views and commentators and Star was starting to make more mistakes and Marco was staring to get overwhelmed with the defence. The three cars fast approached Turns 11 and 12, and Star was too occupied looking into the mirrors than looking ahead. ( “The three drivers now approaching Turn 11, Star seems to not be focusing, she’s braking way too late!” ) Star late brakes and is unable to keep her line and goes off track, clearing the path to both Brad and Marco. As the two drivers go round Turn 13 and approaching the DRS zone, Brad uses it to his advantage and storms pass the Mewni car. However Brad knew that only one car stood in his previous position. “Okay that’s both Mewni cars; good job, good job” the race engineer states, but he soon added the more troubling news, “Jenny is ahead, you may be catching her, but remember we’re not having any more stops, so look after the tyres” he states. “Won’t be a problem!” Brad responds and is somewhat icy in his response, it was clear to the team, he was still upset about the aggressive overtake Jenny did to him. After a few more laps, the race comes down to its last lap and Brad manages to get back to 10th place, however his eyes were set on Jenny who was still in 9th. “Okay Brad, you’re closing in on Jenny, I know you want to get pass, you are free to race but remember to keep it clean, we don’t want a repeat” the race engineer states in concern. “Copy that” Brad responds and puts the hammer down to close in on his teammate. He knew full well, the best chance for the overtake was on the DRS straight, so he did his best to stay by his teammate’s rear wing before the DRS zone. ( “Carbunkle is really working hard to stay on his teammate, looks like he knows he has one chance to pass his teammate” ) ( “Most are hoping that his overtake will be clean, points are on the line here and this team is desperate to get some here today” ) Brad and Jenny soon arrive pass Turn 13 to go down the DRS straight, Brad activated his DRS and putting his ERS into ‘overtake mode’ for additional power; lucky he had some left after making his charge up the field. Jenny could see Brad closing in and tried to go on the defensive to prevent him from passing. However despite Jenny’s best efforts to hold Brad up, the young driver kept on her rear wing and just before the turn, he dives on the inside of Jenny and overtakes her. Eventually the two cross the finish line, but it was still not the results the team were after. ( “Well plenty to digest there, though very ominous to see the My Life as a Teenage Robot teammates making contact again here in Shanghai” ) ( “Yeah, things don’t look stable at this team, they haven’t even been in this championship for half a season yet” ) ( “That move made by Wakeman, you think that was justifiable?” ) ( “It looked to me that Wakeman was making a statement, definitely not giving Carbunkle any room on the track, but whether or not that statement was justifiable; that’s up to the stewards and the team” ) ( “Is this a sign of what’s to come from this team this season? For the team and their fans’ sake, surely hope not” ) —————— After the Race - Paddock Area Brad made his way to the team area in the paddock and looking for Jenny, to confront her about her move that damaged his race. He soon found her, once again consuming motor oil and folding her arms; also unhappy. “Jenny! What was that?!” Brad asked, but Jenny doesn’t responded to him, “you almost put me out of the race, again!” He adds, voicing his frustrations. However Jenny barely responds to Brad, clearly thinking about something else and she didn’t want to give Brad any of her time. But Brad continued to press on, “Bumping wheels like that again, we could’ve both been in the barrier!” he states, Jenny does turn her head to look at him, but she immediately looks away, making Brad concerned. “Jen? come on Jenny, what’s….” But before Brad could possibly add any more words, Jenny’s build in phone goes off, “I have to take this call” she responds coldly and begins to walk off. “Jenny?!” Brad calls for her, but she again ignores him, “WAKEMAN!!” He shouts, but she continues to ignore him, causing Brad to slump his shoulders and sighing. But as if Brad’s day couldn’t get any worse, “Hey Robin! Cancel our subscriptions of Tv!” Starfire calls out in mockery. “Will do! Cause our entertainment is right here!” Robin adds with the same mockery tone. Brad was clearly not up to put up with the two titians, “Don’t you two have anything else better to do?” He asked in annoyance. The two Titan drivers look at each other before looking back, “right now? Nope, and why should we miss this? I mean you two are like characters in a bad written rom-com!” Robin states causing both himself and Starfire to chuckle at Brad. Clearly Brad wasn’t going to put up with the two Titans, but then Robin decides to drop a bomb, “you know she wants a new teammate?” This caused Brad to stop in surprise and look back at the two Titan drivers. “What?” Brad asked, as he had doubts of what’s being said. “Ask anyone on the grid, Brad” Starfire adds with a ruthless smile. “What do you mean?” Brad again asked, now curious. Soon Robin steps forward, “the paddock talks Brad and so did Jenny, should’ve heard her after Imola. She didn’t care who she talked to, but if there’s one thing that was mentioned, it was you” he states. Brad couldn’t believe what was being said, the fact it’s only been four races in the championship and Jenny was looking to get rid of him. But this couldn’t be true….. right? “I know it’s hard, but she tried to convince them to replace you, didn’t want a complete clown, damaging her reputation” Robin adds. “Seriously?” Brad asked, did his best friend, the one who he personally introduced to the open world, valued her own reputation more than their friendship? He couldn’t barely bring himself to believe it. Robin soon put a hand on Brad’s shoulder, “I’m sorry you have to hear it, but we all feel sorry for her mate, I mean you don’t belong here if you’re not gonna be a real professional driver” He states in smug. Brad took this cue to leave, but then both Starfire and Robin, mention one last thing, “You want some advice?” Starfire asked, causing Brad to stop, “Prove her wrong! Keep your chin up” Robin adds and the two Titans begin laughing while Brad walked off in sadness. —————— My Life as a Teenage Robot Team Area - Brad’s Room Brad shut the door behind him and sat down on the sofa in his room, trying to understand it all. He looked to his left and saw the news reports about the incident and other racing news, but the discussion about Jenny played back in his head. He soon hears a ping from his laptop with an important email from Dr. Wakeman. —————— Brad The mandatory post-race team meeting has been put back by 20 minutes, so you have more time to yourself before then. However, that bump between you and XJ-9 has gotten a few members of the team, including myself very concerned and the higher ups at ViacomCBS and Nickelodeon aren’t too happy either. Would recommend you and XJ-9 come to the meeting prepared for harsh words. I already explained this to the both of you, you NEED to start working together, There is a lot at stake here and it can’t be compromised with you and XJ-9 butting heads. The media has already giving our team a hard time and a lot of discussion has been made about us, we need to turn this around fast. More discussions will be made at the meeting, don’t be late. Dr. Nora Wakeman Team Principal - My Life as a Teenage Robot F1 Team ——————— Brad closed his laptop and continued to contemplate, was he just a joke among the others? Or could he prove them wrong? He hears a ping on his phone; with someone asking about his streaming, however Brad decided to prove to everyone that he belongs on the grid and he was gonna show Jenny why he is part of the team. He cancels all his gaming streams until further notice and began focusing more and more on the championship ahead.
